Some interesting members of Abell’s catalog include:
- A426, the Perseus Cluster
- A1367, the Leo Cluster
- A1656, the Coma Cluster
- A2151, the Hercules Cluster
- A3526, the Centaurus Cluster
About 10% of Abell clusters at redshift z < 0.1 are not genuine rich clusters but, rather, the result of the superposition of sparser groupings. Interestingly, the extremely large and extremely rich Virgo Cluster was excluded from the Abell catalog because it covered too large an area of the sky to appear on a single photographic plate.

Famous quotes containing the word members:
“... no young colored person in the United States today can truthfully offer as an excuse for lack of ambition or aspiration that members of his race have accomplished so little, he is discouraged from attempting anything himself. For there is scarcely a field of human endeavor which colored people have been allowed to enter in which there is not at least one worthy representative.”
—Mary Church Terrell (18631954)
“The damned are in the abyss of Hell, as within a woeful city, where they suffer unspeakable torments, in all their senses and members, because as they have employed all their senses and their members in sinning, so shall they suffer in each of them the punishment due to sin.”
—St. Francis De Sales (15671622)
“Jesus, Buddha, Mahommed, great as each may be, their highest comfort given to the sorrowful is a cordial introduction into anothers woe. Sorrows the great community in which all men born of woman are members at one time or another.”
—Sean OCasey (18841964)
