Village Life
Abbots Ripton has a church dedicated to St Andrew, a shop, garage, and a post office. The village pub, The Three Horseshoes, dates from the 17th century; it was severely damaged by a fire in 2010. It also has a school the Abbots Ripton CofE Primary School which teaches 109 children.
Since its inception in 2004, the Secret Garden Party summer music festival has been held annually at a rural location near the village.

Famous quotes containing the words village and/or life:
“I am ashamed to see what a shallow village tale our so-called History is. How many times must we say Rome, and Paris, and Constantinople! What does Rome know of rat and lizard? What are Olympiads and Consulates to these neighboring systems of being? Nay, what food or experience or succor have they for the Esquimaux seal-hunter, or the Kanaka in his canoe, for the fisherman, the stevedore, the porter?”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“It were sad to gaze on the blessèd and no man I loved of old there;
I throw down the chain of small stones! when life in my body has ceased,
I will go to Caoilte, and Conan, and Bran, Sceolan, Lomair,
And dwell in the house of the Fenians, be they in flames or at feast.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
