Aaron Jay Kernis (born January 15, 1960) is an American composer currently serving as a member of the Yale School of Music faculty. Kernis spent 10 years serving as the music advisor to the Minnesota Orchestra and is currently Director of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Composers’ Institute. He is widely regarded as one of the leading composers of his generation, receiving numerous awards and honors throughout his thirty-year career. He currently lives in New York City with his wife, pianist Evelyne Luest, and their two children.
