Personal Life
Born in San Bernardino County, California, Barrett reportedly dated Gwen Stefani in the 1990s while she sang in the band No Doubt. The song "She's Famous Now" from the Reel Big Fish album Why Do They Rock So Hard? is commonly interpreted to be about Barrett and Stefani's relationship, and her subsequent success. However, Barrett later stated that he "was just trying to start a rumor".
He has twin tattoos of a skull and crossbones on the back of his arms (one with an eyepatch, one without).
In June 2011, Barrett was rushed to hospital with reported stomach pains, subsequently having an appendectomy. Later in August, Barrett was forced to cancel shows on the tour whilst receiving further treatment to remove infected fluid from his abdomen, which was a life-threatening complication caused by the procedure.
