A. W. Dharmapala

A.W. Dharmapala was a pioneering broadcaster and Outside Broadcast Engineer of Radio Ceylon - the oldest radio station in South Asia. Dharmapala was one of the first Sinhala voices over the airwaves of Radio Ceylon, now known as the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.

Dharmapala pioneered the way with outside broadcasts and was fully involved in the Buddha Jayanti activities all over the island. Dharmapala's technical expertise was invaluable to Radio Ceylon.

A special commemorative cover and personalized stamp was issued on 22nd December 2011 to commemorate Mr A.W. Dharmapala. A book on Mr Dharmapala's contributions titled Asian Airwaves have also been published.
