Expansion Plans
To relieve the A13 motorway from traffic, two plans for expansion of motorways in the area have been proposed.
The first option, about which the government has been talking for decades, is completing the gap in the A4 motorway between Delft and Schiedam. This would establish a second motorway between The Hague and Rotterdam, situated about five kilometers left of the A13, and relieve the A13 from much of its daily traffic.
The other option is to extend the A16 motorway northwest of its current terminus at interchange Terbregseplein towards a new interchange with A13 between exits Berkel en Rodenrijs and Delft-Zuid. The remaining part of the A13, between this interchange and interchange Ypenburg, would then have to be widened.
