The 9th (Highland) Infantry Division was a second line Territorial Army formation at the beginning of the Second World War. After the surrender of the 51st Highland Division in 1940, the 9th Division, a replica of the 51st Division, was reorganised as the new 51st (Highland) Infantry Division. It carried on the great fighting history of Highland military units and fought in North Africa, Sicily and North-West Europe.

Famous quotes containing the word division:
“That crazed girl improvising her music,
Her poetry, dancing upon the shore,
Her soul in division from itself
Climbing, falling she knew not where,
Hiding amid the cargo of a steamship
Her knee-cap broken.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
