Production
It was the first episode written by John Wells after taking over as sole show runner after Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme left at the end of the fourth season.
The final sequence of the episode shows shots of the Bartlets attending a private mass, intercut with various other scenes, and features the song Sanvean, performed by Lisa Gerrard.
Although mentioned in the pilot episode, this is the first time that the Bartlet's eldest daughter Elizabeth appears in the series.

Famous quotes containing the word production:
“In the production of the necessaries of life Nature is ready enough to assist man.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“An art whose limits depend on a moving image, mass audience, and industrial production is bound to differ from an art whose limits depend on language, a limited audience, and individual creation. In short, the filmed novel, in spite of certain resemblances, will inevitably become a different artistic entity from the novel on which it is based.”
—George Bluestone, U.S. educator, critic. The Limits of the Novel and the Limits of the Film, Novels Into Film, Johns Hopkins Press (1957)
“... if the production of any commodity necessitates the sacrifice of human life, society should do without that commodity, but it can not do without that life.”
—Emma Goldman (18691940)
