The album peaked at thirty-four on the U.S. Billboard 200 and reached the seventh spot on the R&B Albums chart. The album was certified gold in September 1999, and reached platinum status in November 2002.
Stephen Thomas Erlewine at Allmusic was critical of the album's running time and felt it was padded with some filler songs, however he did call the work "a true step forward for 702."

Famous quotes containing the words release and/or reception:
“Come, thou long-expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.”
—Charles Wesley (1707–1788)
“To the United States the Third World often takes the form of a black woman who has been made pregnant in a moment of passion and who shows up one day in the reception room on the forty-ninth floor threatening to make a scene. The lawyers pay the woman off; sometimes uniformed guards accompany her to the elevators.”
—Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
