August 1914
In August 1914, the 6th Battle Squadron was based at Portland and comprised a number of the older pre-dreadnought battleships. These included:

- HMS Agamemnon
- HMS Russell
- HMS Albemarle
- HMS Cornwallis
- HMS Duncan
- HMS Exmouth

HMS Lord Nelson and Agamemnon transferred to the 5th Battle Squadron in late 1914. HMS Revenge briefly joined the squadron in 1915, before the squadron was broken up. Most of the ships were sent to the Mediterranean.

Famous quotes containing the word august:
“Many people I know in Los Angeles believe that the Sixties ended abruptly on August 9, 1969, ended at the exact moment when word of the murders on Cielo Drive traveled like brushfire through the community, and in a sense this is true. The tension broke that day. The paranoia was fulfilled.”
—Joan Didion (b. 1935)
