Famous quotes containing the words world, fiction and/or convention:

Whoever has looked deeply into the world might well guess what wisdom lies in the superficiality of men.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

We can never safely exceed the actual facts in our narratives. Of pure invention, such as some suppose, there is no instance. To write a true work of fiction even is only to take leisure and liberty to describe some things more exactly as they are.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

No good poetry is ever written in a manner twenty years old, for to write in such a manner shows conclusively that the writer thinks from books, convention and cliché, not from real life.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
