34th Street is a station on the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) located at Avenue E and East 34th Street in Bayonne, New Jersey. There are two tracks and an island platform.
The station opened on April 22, 2000. Northbound service from the station is available to Hoboken Terminal. Service is also available to Tonnelle Avenue, in North Bergen, by transferring at stations between Liberty State Park and Pavonia-Newport for the West End Avenue-Tonnelle Avenue route. Southbound service is available to 8th Street in Bayonne. The Liberty State Park station is a transfer point for those traveling between stations on the West Side Avenue (Jersey City) and 8th Street (Bayonne) extensions. Connection to PATH trains to midtown Manhattan and to New Jersey Transit commuter train service are available at Hoboken Terminal. Transfers to PATH trains to Newark, Harrison, and downtown Manhattan are available at Exchange Place.
As of September 2007, the S89 bus route of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of the New York City metro area provides a link from 34th Street Station to Staten Island, NY. A 397 space park and ride lot has also been built at the station.
In 2005, eight PCC streetcars from the Newark City Subway were given to the Bayonne to be rehabilitated and operated along a proposed 2.5-mile (4.0 km) loop to connect the station to MOTBY, the former naval base being redeveloped as cruise port, residential and recreation area.
