Film, TV or Theatrical Adaptations
It was reported on Yahoo Entertainment in 2000 that MGM and Tom Hanks were in discussions regarding turning both 2061: Odyssey Three and 3001: The Final Odyssey into movies. An update in 2001 stated that there was no further development on the project. In 2012 a screenplay adaptation of 3001 was posted on the 2001:Exhibit website, in the hopes of generating interest in both MGM and WB to adapt the fourth and final novel into a film.

Famous quotes containing the word theatrical:
“A Carpaccio in Venice, la Berma in Phèdre, masterpieces of visual or theatrical art that the prestige surrounding them made so alive, that is so invisible, that, if I were to see a Carpaccio in a gallery of the Louvre or la Berma in some play of which I had never heard, I would not have felt the same delicious surprise at finally setting eyes on the unique and inconceivable object of so many thousands of my dreams.”
—Marcel Proust (18711922)
