Famous quotes containing the words order of, order, battle and/or war:

Deafness produces bizarre effects, reversing the natural order of things; the interchange of letters is the conversation of the deaf, and the only link with society. I would be in despair, for instance, over seeing you speak, but, instead, I am only too happy to hear you write.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic, and sub-atomic, and galactic
structure of things today. And you have meddled with the primal forces of nature! And you will atone! Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale?
    Paddy Chayefsky (1923–1981)

    That civilisation may not sink,
    Its great battle lost,
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

We hoped for a happy termination of this terrible war long before this; but God knows best, and has ruled otherwise.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
