The following open tests were held:
- October 12, 2007 at Barber Motorsports Park.
- February 27–28 at Homestead (night).
- March 3–6 at Sebring.
- March 19–20 at Sebring for former Champ Car teams.
- March 24–25 at Homestead for former Champ Car teams (night).
- August 13–14 at Infineon Raceway to evaluate new track 2.245-mile (3.613 km) configuration.
