2007 World Grand Prix (darts)

The 2007 SkyBet World Grand Prix was the tenth staging of a PDC darts tournament which took place between October 8 and October 14. It was the seventh year that the event was being staged at the Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Dublin. Phil Taylor went into the event as defending champion having won it for the previous two years - and seven times in all, but suffered a surprise first round defeat to Adrian Gray.

James Wade followed up his success at the 2007 World Matchplay by adding this title to his collection. He beat World Champion Raymond van Barneveld in the semi-final and Terry Jenkins in the final. Jenkins suffered his fifth televised final defeat in twelve months as his search for his first major title continued.

The top 24 players in the PDC Order of Merit qualified automatically. There were four further qualifiers from the PDPA Players Championship Order of Merit (the best performers from up to 20 non-televised events during the year) and there were four PDPA Irish qualifiers. The All-Ireland qualifiers were held on September 16.

As in previous years, the format of the tournament features much shorter first round matches (best of three sets) and players must start each leg on a double, as well as finish on a double.

Famous quotes containing the words world and/or grand:

    Compassion has no place in the natural order of the world which operates on the basis of necessity. Compassion opposes this order and is therefore best thought of as being in some way supernatural.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

    You’re a grand old flag;
    You’re a high-flying flag.
    And forever in peace may you wave.
    George M. Cohan (1878–1942)
