2007 IIHF Women's World Championship

The 2007 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships were held between April 3, 2007 and April 10, 2007 in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada. There were no championships in 2006 due to the Torino Olympic tournament. Games were played at the MTS Centre and Selkirk Recreation Complex.

It was the 10th event, and was run by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

In June 2006, the IIHF expanded Pool A from 8 to 9 teams, restoring Russia, which had been demoted to Division I after the 2005 event. The decision was made due to the success of the 9-team pool in the 2004 Championships. Because of this change, all teams demoted after the 2005 event were restored to their 2005 divisions for 2007. Three new countries entered the tournament for the first time in 2007.

Famous quotes containing the words women and/or world:

... women learned one important lesson—namely, that it is impossible for the best of men to understand women’s feelings or the humiliation of their position. When they asked us to be silent on our question during the War, and labor for the emancipation of the slave, we did so, and gave five years to his emancipation and enfranchisement.... I was convinced, at the time, that it was the true policy. I am now equally sure that it was a blunder.
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902)

For it is a fire that, kindling its first embers in the narrow nook of a private bosom, caught from a wandering spark out of another private heart, glows and enlarges until it warms and beams upon multitudes of men and women, upon the universal heart of all, and so lights up the whole world and all nature with its generous flames.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
