Golden Gala
The third stop of the Golden League took place at Rome's Stadio Olimpico, on June 13, 2007. This meet hit headlines, as French long jumper Salim Sdiri was hit by a rogue javelin, thrown by Finn Tero Pitkämäki, as he warmed up for his event. The injuries sustained, however, were not serious and Sdiri made a full recovery.

Famous quotes containing the words golden and/or gala:
“But when the bowels of the earth were sought,
And men her golden entrails did espy,
This mischief then into the world was brought,
This framed the mint which coined our misery.
...
And thus began thexordium of our woes,
The fatal dumb-show of our misery;
Here sprang the tree on which our mischief grows,
The dreary subject of worlds tragedy.”
—Michael Drayton (15631631)
“The first general store opened on the Cold Saturday of the winter of 1833 ... Mrs. Mary Miller, daughter of the stores promoter, recorded in a letter: Chickens and birds fell dead from their roosts, cows ran bellowing through the streets; but she failed to state what effect the freeze had on the gala occasion of the store opening.”
