2007 Alum Rock Earthquake - Damage

Damage

The earthquake caused minor damage, such as knocking things off of shelves, but caused no casualties. The shaking was felt as far north as Eugene, Oregon. Some parts of the area felt the rupture for up to 15 seconds. David Oppenheimer, a seismologist at the United States Geological Survey (USGS), said that although the quake was felt as a strong jolt over a wide region, it was more significant because it caused stress changes in the Calaveras Fault and the nearby Hayward Fault.

Famous quotes containing the word damage:

The relationship between mother and professional has not been a partnership in which both work together on behalf of the child, in which the expert helps the mother achieve her own goals for her child. Instead, professionals often behave as if they alone are advocates for the child; as if they are the guardians of the child’s needs; as if the mother left to her own devices will surely damage the child and only the professional can rescue him.
    Elaine Heffner (20th century)

There is such a thing as food and such a thing as poison. But the damage done by those who pass off poison as food is far less than that done by those who generation after generation convince people that food is poison.
    Paul Goodman (1911–1972)

Technological innovation has done great damage ... to eating habits. Food is now available in such unpleasant forms that one frequently finds smoking between courses to be an aid to digestion.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)
