Pre Race News

  • A select number of Chevrolet cars bore a special paint scheme honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1957 Bel Air with replica tail fins on the side panels and old-fashioned round headlight and taillight decals. The drivers were Mark Martin, Martin Truex Jr., Ward Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Paul Menard, J.J. Yeley, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Casey Mears, Jimmie Johnson, Scott Wimmer, and Tony Raines. Mears replaced the now-defunct Ginn Racing #14 which would have been driven by Sterling Marlin.
  • Kenny Wallace was released from the #78 Furniture Row Racing Chevy team. Wimmer replaced him, but failed to qualify in a one-race deal.
  • Due to a hand injury to his hand suffered in a fit of anger when he punched out a wall, Kyle Petty was replaced in the #45 as Chad McCumbee for that race only.
  • Ricky Rudd announced that he will formally retire after the 2007 season. Rudd has been driving the #88 Robert Yates Racing Snickers Ford after taking the 2006 season off.

Famous quotes containing the words race and/or news:

It is always dangerous to generalise, but the American people, while infinitely generous, are a hard and strong race and, but for the few cemeteries I have seen, I am inclined to think they never die.
    Margot Asquith (1864–1945)

Newsmen believe that news is a tacitly acknowledged fourth branch of the federal system. This is why most news about government sounds as if it were federally mandated—serious, bulky and blandly worthwhile, like a high-fiber diet set in type.
