The 2005 Vanderbilt Commodores football team represented the Vanderbilt University in the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season. The Commodores offense scored 299 points while the defense allowed 321 points. Led by head coach Bobby Johnson in his 4th year, the Commodores won their first four games of the season but finished the season with only five wins.
This was Jay Cutler's senior year. The leading receiver was Earl Bennett. Also on the team: Jonathan Goff, Thomas Welch and Chris Williams.

The final drive started with 2:47 on the clock on the Vandy one yard line Jay Cutler completed six straight passes to bring Vandy to the Vandy 45 a MTSU time out stopped the clock and a MTSU 15 yard penalty (12 Men on the field) moved the ball to the MTSU 44. 3 plays later Cutler stopped the clock with Vandy on the MTSU 19 witched set up a 36 yard field goal attempt a MTSU player slipped threw the line with no time on the clock stopped Vandy’s win streak at 4.
