2005 USC Vs. Notre Dame Football Game - The "Bush Push" Play

The "Bush Push" Play

The Bush Push was criticized by some fans claiming that Section 3, Article 2b of the NCAA rule book states that, "he runner shall not grasp a teammate; and no other player of his team shall grasp, push, lift or charge into him to assist him in forward progress." If the penalty had been called, the push would have resulted in a five-yard penalty and another play. However, the penalty is rarely called. When asked about the play, Weis expressed his hope that his running back would do the same in that situation.

Famous quotes containing the words bush, push and/or play:

The personal things should be left out of platforms at conventions .... You can argue yourself blue in the face, and you’re not going to change each other’s minds. It’s a waste of your time and my time.
    —Barbara Bush (b. 1925)

Do not push so fast ahead, do slow down a bit! Otherwise you won’t catch up with yourselves.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself character that our future needs. We must become more self-conscious and more explicit in our praise and reinforcement as children use unstructured play materials: “That’s good. You use your own ideas....” “That’s good. You did it your way....” “That’s good. You thought it all out yourself.”
James L. Hymes, Jr. (20th century)
