2002 World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships. The 2002 Worlds were held in Nagano, Japan from March 16 to 24th, 2002 at the M-Wave Arena. It was the first ISU competition after the much publicized judging debacle at the 2002 Olympic Games. Neither pairs gold medalists chose to attend. Both went pro soon after.
2002 Worlds was the first time Israel had ever won a medal at Worlds.
The first compulsory dance was the Golden Waltz. The second was the Quickstep. Due to the large number of participants, the ladies and men's qualifying groups were split into groups A and B.
