  • 13 January - Singapore and Japan sign the Japan-Singapore Economic Agreement.
  • 27 December - Two police officers, SI Ong Kah Kiong Anthony, 43, and his companion, SC/CPL Muhammad Syakir Bin Ishak, 22, dies when their patrol car was hit from the rear by a large garbage truck along Tanah Merah Ferry Road. The impact of the crash sent the patrol car off the road, flipping over and landing on its roof, with the trunk landing on top of the patrol car. Both officers, on normal supervisory rounds from the Changi Neighbourhood Police Centre of Bedok division, were crushed and killed on the spot.
