1 Service Battalion - The Unit Crest

The Unit Crest

The crest of 1 Svc Bn (seen above) was selected after many years of discussion in 1978. The badge depicts a Dall Ram’s head against the battalion flag oriented diagonally inside a ceremonial Canadian Forces Unit crest. The Dall Ram is indigenous to Alberta and it was selected to represent the “Army of the West” many years ago by Major General F.F. Worthington.

Famous quotes containing the words unit and/or crest:

    During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroner’s jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

    What shall he have that killed the deer?
    His leather skin and horns to wear.
    Then sing him home.
    Take thou no scorn to wear the horn,
    It was a crest ere thou wast born;
    Thy father’s father wore it,
    And thy father bore it.
    The horn, the horn, the lusty horn
    Is not a thing to laugh to scorn.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
