  • PBA Commissioner Rudy Salud, stepped down from his post, after four successful years of guiding the league at its highest level, PBA chairman Rey Marquez succeeded Atty.Salud as the new PBA Commissioner.
  • The ULTRA, PBA's playing venue, was renamed NASA, now controlled by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), by the end of the year, the league left the Pasig Arena after 8 years of cherish memories, great wars and rivalries, and moved over to a bigger venue, the newly-built Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City the following season.
  • The PBA suffered in gate attendance, with lean crowds watching the games during the All-Filipino, among several factors were the absence of crowd-drawer Ginebra San Miguel from the semis, and the deteriorating venue, the league introduced the Whiplash dancers during halftime to entertain the fans watching live.
  • League mourns the passing of the great sportscaster Joe Cantada who succumbed to cancer on March 22.
  • San Miguel Beer returned to the PBA finals after a two-year absence, won the All-Filipino crown.
  • Swift Mighty Meaties found an import known as the "Hurricane" Tony Harris, who scored 105 points in a game, and led Swift to its first championship.
  • Tommy Manotoc returns as bench tactician, taking over Jimmy Mariano, who resigned as coach of Presto Ice Cream after the All-Filipino Conference.
  • The Gokongwei franchise, one of the two remaining pioneers in the PBA, formally bid goodbye after 18 years of being part of Asia's play for pay league, Presto Ice Cream Kings played its last official PBA game on a losing cause to Seven-Up on November 5.
