Famous quotes containing the word ladder:
“O, when degree is shaked,
Which is the ladder to all high designs,
The enterprise is sick.”
—William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
“We make a ladder for ourselves out of our vices when we trample them.”
—St. Augustine (354–430)
“But ‘tis a common proof
That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder,
Whereto the climber-upward turns his face;
But when he once attains the upmost round
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend.”
—William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
