1986 Federation Cup (tennis)

The 1986 Federation Cup was the 24th edition of the most important competition between national teams in women's tennis. The tournament was held at I. Czech Lawn Tennis Club in Prague, Czechoslovakia, from 20–27 July. The United States defeated three-time defending champions Czechoslovakia in the final (in what was a rematch of last year's final), giving the USA their 12th title. The finals marked Martina Navrátilová's first return to Czechoslovakia since her defection to the United States in 1975.

Famous quotes containing the words federation and/or cup:

Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.
—General Federation Of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)

It is surely easier to confess a murder over a cup of coffee than in front of a jury.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)
