The 1979 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (1979 WJHC) was the third edition of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and was held from December 20, 1978 until January 3, 1979. The tournament was held in Karlstad and Karlskoga, Sweden. The Soviet Union won its third consecutive gold medal, while Czechoslovakia won the silver, and Sweden the bronze.
