1974 Davis Cup

The 1974 Davis Cup was the 63rd edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 56 teams would enter the competition, 33 in the Europe Zone, 12 in the Americas Zone, and 11 in the Eastern Zone.

South Africa defeated Colombia in the Americas Zone final, India defeated Australia in the Eastern Zone final, and Italy and the Soviet Union won the Europe Zones.

In the Inter-Zonal Zone, South Africa defeated Italy and India defeated the Soviet Union. The final was scratched and South Africa was awarded the Davis Cup after India refused to travel to South Africa for the final in protest of the South African government's apartheid policies.

Famous quotes containing the words davis and/or cup:

One of the important things to learn about parenting is that the more you worry about a child, the less the child will worry about him- or herself....instead of worrying, watch with fascination and wonder as your child’s life unfolds, and help the child take responsibility for his or her own life.
    —Charlotte Davis Kasl (20th century)

Sunday morning may be cheery enough, with its extra cup of coffee and litter of Sunday newspapers, but there is always hanging over it the ominous threat of 3 P.M., when the sun gets around to the back windows and life stops dead in its tracks.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
