  • 15 January – Art Linkletter's House Party (1945–1967) debuts on CBS.
  • 29 January – Lionel Barrymore becomes the host of Lux Radio Theater, replacing Cecil B. DeMille.
  • 3 March – Superman encounters Batman and Robin for the first time. This occurs on the Mutual Network.
  • 9 March – Those Websters debuts on CBS.
  • 30 April – Arthur Godfrey Time debuts on CBS, a morning time slot every weekday. The show ended on April 30, 1972.
  • 4 August – AFN Berlin goes on air with the Rhapsody in Blue from George Gershwin.
  • 1 September – WEZB in New Orleans,Louisiana begins broadcasting as WRCM-FM.
