1936 New York Yankees Season - Regular Season

Regular Season

  • May 3, 1936: Joe DiMaggio, touted by sportswriters as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe Jackson rolled into one, made his major league debut, batting ahead of Lou Gehrig. The Yankees had not been to the World Series since 1932, but, thanks in large part to their sensational rookie, they won the 1936 World Series.
  • May 24, 1936: Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees hit two grand slams in one game, the first time this had been accomplished in the major leagues.

Famous quotes containing the words regular and/or season:

[I]n our country economy, letter writing is an hors d’oeuvre. It is no part of the regular routine of the day.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Much poetry seems to be aware of its situation in time and of its relation to the metronome, the clock, and the calendar. ... The season or month is there to be felt; the day is there to be seized. Poems beginning “When” are much more numerous than those beginning “Where” of “If.” As the meter is running, the recurrent message tapped out by the passing of measured time is mortality.
    William Harmon (b. 1938)
