Famous quotes containing the words outstanding, game and/or show:
“From time to time there appear on the face of the earth men of rare and consummate excellence, who dazzle us by their virtue, and whose outstanding qualities shed a stupendous light. Like those extraordinary stars of whose origins we are ignorant, and of whose fate, once they have vanished, we know even less, such men have neither forebears nor descendants: they are the whole of their race.”
—Jean De La Bruyère (1645–1696)
“A man’s idea in a card game is war—cruel, devastating and pitiless. A lady’s idea of it is a combination of larceny, embezzlement and burglary.”
—Finley Peter Dunne (1867–1936)
“You show up
and you rattle off endearments.
Lucky Man,
that’s where your goodness stops,
and tell me this:
Who can show somebody
the workings of the heart
by tearing it in two?”
—Hla Stavhana (c. 50 A.D.)
