105.7 Smooth Radio - Station Format

Station Format

105.7 Smooth Radio played middle-of-the-road, adult contemporary music, aimed at listeners aged 35 and over. It had few similarities to its predecessor. Some of the specialist shows from the Saga days survived initially, but were gradually replaced with a more contemporary format. Output from the station was increasingly simulcast from London, example's being Tony Blackburn's Weekend Breakfast Show which began in 2008, and Mark Goodier's weekday mid-morning show, which began in Autumn 2007. Smooth's initial slogan "Your life. Your music.", which was used on Saga stations, was modified to "Love Life. Love Music." to enhance Smooth's promise to play the best choice of music from the previous four decades. The music policy at Smooth ranged from the late 60's right up to the present date, with a heavy focus on easy listening songs .

Amongst others, Mark Goodier's Mid Morning Show, Tony Blackburn's Weekend Breakfast Show and Andy Peebles' Soul Train are simulcast from London and could be heard across the other stations in the Smooth Network. Evening and overnight shows were also simulcast with other Smooth stations. All other output was produced locally.

Smooth Crew attended local events and shows, providing a face for the station. They could regularly be seen in their Smooth's branded cars, interacting with the public and giving out Smooth merchandise. They could often be found at fetes, carnivals and shopping centres with the Smooth DJ's and live music.
