Yuen-Ying Chan - Academic Work

Academic Work

In 1999, Chan founded the Journalism and Media Studies Centre in Hong Kong, which offered both graduate and undergraduate degrees in journalism. She later established the Cheung Kong School of Journalism and Communication at Shantou University in Guangdong, China.

In 2006, she strongly criticized the search engine Google for censoring its Chinese service, calling it "a missed opportunity to help nurture free journalism in the country".

Famous quotes containing the words academic and/or work:

If twins are believed to be less intelligent as a class than single-born children, it is not surprising that many times they are also seen as ripe for social and academic problems in school. No one knows the extent to which these kind of attitudes affect the behavior of multiples in school, and virtually nothing is known from a research point of view about social behavior of twins over the age of six or seven, because this hasn’t been studied either.
    Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)

Then, bringing me the joy we feel when wee see a work by our favorite painter which differs from any other that we know, or if we are led before a painting of which we have until then only seen a pencil sketch, if a musical piece heard only on the piano appears before us clothed in the colors of the orchestra, my grandfather called me the [hawthorn] hedge at Tansonville, saying, “You who are so fond of hawthorns, look at this pink thorn, isn’t it lovely?”
    Marcel Proust (1871–1922)
