Wirral Peninsula - Accents and Dialects

Accents and Dialects

The peninsula has many accents, though the proximity of the accents of Liverpool and Cheshire means that many people have accents in between the two. The inhabitants of Birkenhead and Wallasey, closer to Liverpool, are more closely influenced by the Liverpool "Scouse" accent. Accents in the South and West Wirral areas are not as strong, however. Neston once had a distinctive dialect derived from the migrant workers at the Denhall Colliery.
