Sports and Leisure
Winterley Pool is a fishing lake that serves as the centre-point to Winterley. The pool was formerly used to power a corn mill, with water flowing through a channel cut to Fowle Brook. There are two pools to fish; the larger front pool and the smaller Match Pool to the rear. The main pool has a large resident population of mute swans and various species of geese.

Famous quotes containing the words sports and/or leisure:
“The whole idea of image is so confused. On the one hand, Madison Avenue is worried about the image of the players in a tennis tour. On the other hand, sports events are often sponsored by the makers of junk food, beer, and cigarettes. What’s the message when an athlete who works at keeping her body fit is sponsored by a sugar-filled snack that does more harm than good?”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“Some are “industrious,” and appear to love labor for its own sake, or perhaps because it keeps them out of worse mischief; to such I have at present nothing to say. Those who would not know what to do with more leisure than they now enjoy, I might advise to work twice as hard as they do,—work till they pay for themselves, and get their free papers.”
—Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
