Economics
The first games were funded by the Indiana state government, at the cost of US$300,000. Eventually, they were almost self-sufficient. The 1989 budget was $750,000. Corporate sponsors included Conseco, Inc.; Hardee's; Merchants National Corporation; Hook's; Taco Bell; and Marsh Supermarkets. The figures for the economic bursts were $1 million for the regional events, and $8 million for Indianapolis, in 1989.

Famous quotes containing the word economics:
“Womens battle for financial equality has barely been joined, much less won. Society still traditionally assigns to woman the role of money-handler rather than money-maker, and our assigned specialty is far more likely to be home economics than financial economics.”
—Paula Nelson (b. 1945)
“I am not prepared to accept the economics of a housewife.”
—Jacques Chirac (b. 1932)
“The animals that depend on instinct have an inherent knowledge of the laws of economics and of how to apply them; Man, with his powers of reason, has reduced economics to the level of a farce which is at once funnier and more tragic than Tobacco Road.”
—James Thurber (18941961)
