The population of the Weston Creek district in 2006 was 22,717. The median age was 39, and 27.1% of the population were aged 55 and over compared with the national figure of 24.3%. Over 92% of residents were Australian citizens, compared with the national figure of 86.1%, although 21% were born overseas. The unemployment rate in 2006 of 2.9% was well below the national figure of 5.2%, and the median individual income was $737 compared with the national average of $466. Not surprisingly for a district of Canberra, nearly 24% of the workforce were Commonwealth public service or Defence, compared with the national figure of 2%.
