In the 2011 - 2012 year, the Jaguars went 9-1, becoming district champions. The 2008 varsity football team defeated the Chipley Tigers 35-0, to break a three-year-long losing streak. They ended the year 4-6. This was the first season that the varsity football team won a game since their inaugural season in 2004.

The 2009 football team went 4-6 with only 10 seniors on the roster. The 2009 varsity football team had more sophomores than seniors. The 2009 team broke many previous school records. They won their opening game against the Walton Braves, becoming the first team to win their opening game.

The most points scored in a single game came in West Florida High School's first ever school victory against Class 2A rivals Marianna High School in 2004. The game, played at Escambia High School, ended with a final score of 64-28. The team scored on its first nine possessions of the game. Quarterback John Boatner went 13-14 passing for 421 yards and 5 touchdowns. Receiver Kelvin King ranks third in FHSAA history with 328 receiving yards in the game, along with 3 touchdowns. Nelson Rembert and Trace Whitman had one touchdown catch each. Running backs Jolante and JohnDale Wiggins and Ruben Powers added four more touchdowns on the ground.

The team followed the victory with another a week later against Panama City Arnold High School, with a final score of 28-13. The win gave West Florida its first district championship. The 2011 West Florida team was the first time the school won district 5A.

West Florida lost its first playoff game 21-18 against heavily favored Wakulla High School on three missed extra point attempts.
