West Asian Football Federation

The West Asian Football Federation (WAFF), founded in 2001, is an association of the football playing nations in Western Asia. Its founding members are Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria. In 2009, 3 more associations joined the federation: Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Four other nations of Western Asia: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia joined in 2010.

They organize the West Asian Football Federation Championship. Some nations were invited to participate in the competition when they were not yet members of the federation. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, which are not members, were invited to participate in the first edition of the tournament in 2000.

Famous quotes containing the words west, asian, football and/or federation:

Listen, my friend, I’ve just come back from Mississippi and over there when you talk about the West Bank they think you mean Arkansas.
    Patrick Buchanan (b. 1938)

If he roars at you as you’re dyin’
You’ll know it is the Asian Lion.
    Carolyn Wells (1862–1942)

In this dream that dogs me I am part
Of a silent crowd walking under a wall,
Leaving a football match, perhaps, or a pit,
    All moving the same way.
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)

Women realize that we are living in an ungoverned world. At heart we are all pacifists. We should love to talk it over with the war-makers, but they would not understand. Words are so inadequate, and we realize that the hatred must kill itself; so we give our men gladly, unselfishly, proudly, patriotically, since the world chooses to settle its disputes in the old barbarous way.
