Wesley Willis

Wesley Willis (May 31, 1963 – August 21, 2003) was an American singer-songwriter and visual artist from Chicago, known for his simple but unique music, with emphasis on his humorous, bizarre, and frequently obscene lyrics.

A diagnosed chronic schizophrenic, Willis gained an enormous cult following in the 1990s. In addition to his large body of solo musical work, Willis fronted the punk rock band the Wesley Willis Fiasco. He was also a visual artist long before his forays into music, and produced hundreds of intricate, unusual, colored ink-pen drawings, most of them of Chicago streetscapes and CTA buses.

Famous quotes containing the word wesley:

    Jesus, Lover of my soul, Let me to thy bosom fly,
    While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high;
    Hide me, O my Saviour, hide, Till the storm of life be past;
    Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last.
    —Charles Wesley (1707–1788)
