Waw-consecutive

Waw-consecutive

The Waw-consecutive or Vav-consecutive is a grammatical construction in Classical Hebrew. It involves prefixing a verb form with the letter waw in order to change its tense and/or aspect. (There is still dispute among linguists over to what extent the different verb forms in Classical Hebrew and Koranic Arabic should be viewed as past vs. non-past tense, as perfect vs. imperfect aspect, or as a combination of the two.)
