Theatre
Warhill High School follows a WJCC district tradition by performing a fall play, a competition piece, and a spring musical. The inaugural play Cut! was performed November 16 and 17, 2007. Cut! is a glimpse into the often surreal life of the actor; each actor portraying up to 7 characters throughout the play. The premiere musical was Beauty and the Beast (musical) performed March 13–16, 2008. Both shows were directed by Robert Cannon. The most recent play was The Wizard of Oz. Famous quotes containing the word theatre:
“To save the theatre, the theatre must be destroyed, the actors and actresses must all die of the plague. They poison the air, they make art impossible. It is not drama that they play, but pieces for the theatre. We should return to the Greeks, play in the open air; the drama dies of stalls and boxes and evening dress, and people who come to digest their dinner.”
—Eleonora Duse (18591924)
“The theatre is the best way of showing the gap between what is said and what is seen to be done, and that is why, ragged and gap-toothed as it is, it has still a far healthier potential than some poorer, abandoned arts.”
—David Hare (b. 1947)
“If an irreducible distinction between theatre and cinema does exist, it may be this: Theatre is confined to a logical or continuous use of space. Cinema ... has access to an alogical or discontinuous use of space.”
—Susan Sontag (b. 1933)
