The Vrtoglavica Cave (also Vrtiglavica, from Slovenian "vrtoglavica" = vertigo) is a cave located inside the Kanin mountain in the Slovenian part of the Julian Alps, near to the border between Slovenia and Italy. The cave holds the record for having the deepest single vertical drop (pitch) of any cave on Earth at a depth of 603 metres (1,978 ft).
Total depth of cave is 643 m, it contains one of the tallest cave waterfalls in the world, estimated height of falls - 400 to 440 m. Discovered in the summer 1996 by Italian speleologists, bottom reached in October 12, 1996 by joint Slovenian-Italian expedition.
