Community
The Vredefort Dome in the center of the crater is home to three towns, namely Parys, Vredefort and Koppies. Parys is the largest and a tourist hub; both Vredefort and Koppies mainly depend on an agricultural economy.
On 19 December 2011, a broadcasting license was granted by ICASA to a community radio station to broadcast for the Afrikaans- and English-speaking members of the communities within the crater. The Afrikaans name Koepel Stereo (Dome Stereo) refers to the dome and announces its broadcast as KSFM. The station broadcasts on 94.9 MHz FM.

Famous quotes containing the word community:
“What I wanted was to create thoughtful citizenspeople who believed they could live interesting lives and be productive and socially useful. So I tried to create a community of children and adults where the adults shared and respected the childrens lives.”
—Deborah Meier (b. 1931)
“This is the only wet community in a wide area, and is the rendezvous of cow hands seeking to break the monotony of chuck wagon food and range life. Friday night is the big time for local cowboys, and consequently the calaboose is called the Friday night jail.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“I do not mean to imply that the good old days were perfect. But the institutions and structurethe webof society needed reform, not demolition. To have cut the institutional and community strands without replacing them with new ones proved to be a form of abuse to one generation and to the next. For so many Americans, the tragedy was not in dreaming that life could be better; the tragedy was that the dreaming ended.”
—Richard Louv (20th century)
