Value City Arena

The Value City Arena at the Jerome Schottenstein Center is a multi-purpose arena, located on the campus of The Ohio State University, in Columbus. It was the main sports, music, and entertainment arena in the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area until Nationwide Arena opened in 2000.

The arena opened in 1998 and is currently the largest in the Big Ten Conference.

It is home to Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball, women's basketball and men's ice hockey teams. Previously, the basketball teams played at St. John Arena, while the ice hockey team played at the OSU Ice Arena. The arena is named for Jerome Schottenstein, of Columbus, late founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. and lead benefactor of the project.

Ohio State ranked 18th in the nation in average attendance (15,390) for the 2005–06 season.

Famous quotes containing the words city and/or arena:

I am not aware that any man has ever built on the spot which I occupy. Deliver me from a city built on the site of a more ancient city, whose materials are ruins, whose gardens cemeteries. The soil is blanched and accursed there, and before that becomes necessary the earth itself will be destroyed.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... often the empowering strategies we use in the arena of love and friendship are immediately dropped when we come into the arena of politicized difference—when in fact some of those strategies are useful and necessary.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)
