Academics

University of the Punjab offers a program of studies at the undergraduate, master of science, master of philosophy and doctoral levels. It also offers BS honours in subjects including software engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics and environmental sciences. The university has about 25,000 full-time regular students and about 147,000 students in 434 affiliated colleges. With very few exceptions, these colleges offer a 2-year associate bachelors or 'bachelor pass' degree. The university acts as a certifying body for the autonomous colleges and administers and grades the final or end of degree exams for all graduates of these autonomous affiliated colleges, but does not participate in their day to day operation. All graduates of these autonomous affiliated colleges are awarded their degree by the University of Punjab. The university also has several thousand private students in the liberal arts. These study on their own and take examinations held by the university to qualify for their degrees. The University has conferred 100 doctorates annually in the last four years.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)
