Ellis Fischel Cancer Center
Ellis Fischel Cancer Center is Missouri’s only hospital dedicated solely to cancer care and was the first free-standing cancer center west of the Mississippi River and the second such institution of its kind in the United States. The center's clinics and screening services are located at Business Loop 70 in Columbia and its 60-bed inpatient unit is located within University Hospital.
Construction is underway to consolidate Ellis Fischel in a new tower on the University Hospital campus. Completion is scheduled for 2013.
The Ernest and Eugenia Wyatt Guest House is located next to Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and is available for patients experiencing long-term outpatient care, such as chemotherapy, and families of Ellis Fischel inpatients.

Famous quotes containing the words ellis, cancer and/or center:
“Every artist writes his own autobiography.”
—Havelock Ellis (18591939)
“Im beginning to believe that Killer Illiteracy ought to rank near heart disease and cancer as one of the leading causes of death among Americans. What you dont know can indeed hurt you, and so those who can neither read nor write lead miserable lives, like Richard Wrights character, Bigger Thomas, born dead with no past or future.”
—Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
“Death is someone you see very clearly with eyes in the center of your heart: eyes that see not by reacting to light, but by reacting to a kind of a chill from within the marrow of your own life.”
—Thomas Merton (19151968)
