United Press International

United Press International (UPI) is a once-major international news agency, whose newswires, photo, news film and audio services provided news material to thousands of newspapers, magazines and radio and television stations for most of the twentieth century. Since 1982, it has become much smaller, with a different customer base and product focus.

Famous quotes containing the words united and/or press:

    I have ever deemed it fundamental for the United States never to take active part in the quarrels of Europe. Their political interests are entirely distinct from ours. Their mutual jealousies, their balance of power, their complicated alliances, their forms and principles of government, are all foreign to us. They are nations of eternal war.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

    I press not to the quire, nor dare I greet
    The holy place with my unhallowed feet;
    My unwashed Muse pollutes not things divine,
    Nor mingles her profaner notes with thine;
    Here humbly at the porch she listening stays,
    And with glad ears sucks in thy sacred lays.
    Thomas Carew (1589–1639)
